Description: board describing a tench called in Latin \Type: woodcut. Support: laid paper (pure rag paper). Author: conrad gessner born in zurich on 26/03/1516 and died in the same city on 13/12/1565 is a Swiss naturalist, known for his work as a humanist polygraph. Many of his encyclopedic works are considered as the founder of a domain. (Original etching xvi era dating from 1558 and not a reproduction or copy of the 20th century).
Overall dimensions with passes everywhere. Dimensions visible part: 31 x 18 cm. Beautiful watercolor wood engraving on laid paper (pure rag) of the sixteenth. The engraving is protected by a passe-partout itself glued to its periphery on a cardboard back to be put directly in a 40 x standard size frame.
The engraving is just held at its 4 corners by a small piece of double-sided adhesive of some mm on the margin and not on the engraved part. So the engraving is not stuck on the cardboard bottom it is easily easy to recover in the case of a custom frame by removing the mat and detaching the 4 corners of the etching of the cardboard background. General condition very correct on rag paper see photo for possible minor defects. (The engraving is more beautiful and bright in reality than in the photo, because taken with my smartphone).
